The Roland-Garros Commitment

The FFT has put sustainable development at the heart of its strategy as a federation. As a demonstration of this commitment, Roland Garros in 2014 became the first French sporting event run on an international scale to obtain ISO 20121 certification. The Parisian Grand Slam is currently working towards getting this certification renewed. In 2017, the Grand Slam had its event certification renewed for the next three years (2017-2019).

Since January 2017, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and the WWF, Roland Garros has been a signatory to the charter of 15 eco-responsible commitments for sporting events, which is based on ambitious and quantified objectives.

Fight against climate change

The FFT also joined the Sports for Climate Action movement on its foundation by the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) in December 2018. Supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the movement calls on sporting organisations and the organisers of major international sporting events in particular to play an active role in the fight against climate change.

The FFT is also working in conjunction with Roland-Garros’s partners on the fulfilment of all these commitments by encouraging people, through the Good Action Challenge, to adopt environmentally friendly practices, not least in the food supply chain.

Raising awareness

Wednesday 5 June is Sustainable Development Day at Roland-Garros. Coinciding with World Environment Day, it will strive above all to increase environmental awareness among spectators.

The day will end with a climate conference, organised jointly by the FFT and the UNFCCC at Le Roland-Garros restaurant. The event will draw attention to the need for major sporting competitions to make a commitment to the environment and will also raise awareness of climate issues across the tournament ecosystem.
